Most readers of this blog understand that the UN is a ridiculous body made up of people with outrageous ideas and even more outrageous lust for power.
Their newest threat to our freedom: The UN Convention of Rights of the Child.
No one condones child abuse. Personally, I don’t even agree with spanking. If I see a parent spank, or slap their child in public, I do my best to embarass the hell out of them by loudly scorning them. My personal views aside, I understand that the government has no place in parenting, and only in cases of gross (criminal) abuse or neglect should the state become involved.
According to the Huffington Post it is becoming a priority among some democrats to get the treaty ratified by the Senate (it was signed by Bill Clinton, but never submitted to the Senate then).
According to the United Nations, this treaty would be legally binding, meaning that it would become the law of the land in the United States! They summarize the effect of the treaty as,
The Convention protects children’s rights by setting standards in health care; education; and legal, civil and social services.
This may seem innocuous, but let’s think about this for a moment. Do we want the UN to dictate education and health care policy to the United States? Not if we value our liberty!
